About Highway Rider

Highway Rider is a 3D motorcycle racing game that drops you onto a sport bike in the middle of a long desert highway. Cars, SUVs, buses and big trucks fill four lanes, and some of them change lanes with their indicators blinking, so you have to read the road before you dive into a gap. Every time you slip past a vehicle with inches to spare above 70 km/h you earn a near-miss bonus, and chaining them builds a combo that multiplies the points.

Ride in the chase view and watch the bike lean hard into every move, or switch to first person and see the bars and the dials in front of you. The nitro lifts the front wheel into a wheelie and adds speed, and it refills with every near miss. Two-way mode puts oncoming traffic in the left lanes: riding there doubles your score, but the risk is far higher.

The scenery keeps changing as you go: desert and mountains, then the edge of a city with towers and overpasses, then an oasis with palm trees and green fields. Ride by day, at sunset, or at night with the street lamps glowing and your headlight cutting through the dark. Crash and time slows down as you tumble off the bike in a movie-style wipeout, with no blood at all. The cash you earn buys faster bikes and new paint, all saved on your device.

How to play

  1. Pick the road (one-way or two-way) and the time of day, then press Ride.
  2. Hold the gas, wait for the 3-2-1 countdown and launch.
  3. Steer left and right through the traffic, and stay above 100 km/h to keep scoring.
  4. Pass vehicles as closely as you dare for near-miss bonuses that also refill the nitro.
  5. Fire the nitro for a wheelie and a burst of speed, and avoid every crash.
  6. Earn cash and buy a faster bike in the garage.

Controls

KeyboardUp arrow or W for gas, down arrow or S to brake, left and right or A and D to steer, Shift or Space for nitro, H to honk, C to switch camera, and P or Esc to pause.

Tips to win

  • Look far ahead: a blinking orange indicator means that vehicle will move into the next lane in about a second.
  • Near misses close together build a combo, so ride the gap between lanes whenever you can.
  • In two-way mode, oncoming cars honk and flash when you are in their lane, which is your cue to get back over.
  • Brake early before a traffic jam: the bike stops much faster than the cars around you.

Highway Rider: questions and answers

Is Highway Rider free to play?

Yes, it's completely free and runs right in your browser, with no download, no sign-up and no ads inside the game.

Can I play this motorcycle game on my phone?

Yes. Turn the phone sideways and you get steering buttons on the left, gas and brake pedals on the right and a nitro button. Most phones use the light graphics setting automatically so the game stays smooth, and fast phones get full graphics.

How do I unlock new bikes?

Every run earns cash based on your score. In the garage, pick a bike and press buy once you can afford it. There are four bikes from 175 to 300 km/h, plus paint colors that unlock as your total distance grows.

What is the difference between one-way and two-way?

In one-way mode all the traffic drives with you. In two-way mode the two left lanes carry oncoming traffic: riding there doubles your points, and a near miss with an oncoming car is worth even more.

What age is Highway Rider for?

It suits players from about 10 up, and adults. Crashes play out in slow motion with the rider tumbling off the bike, with no blood or gore.
